Without Her

Watching that girl go by, thinking about her
Can’t help but wonder what I’d do without her
Catch myself thinking her name
And every day it’s the same
Though I may fall as I stumble without her
And I’m feeling so lost as I wander around her
I hope it’ll work out someday
Wish I knew that she felt the same way
Sometimes I fear that my dreams they may shatter
But sometimes I wonder if it even matters
Wish I could just let her know
But afraid that it might make her go
The sound of her laughter the sight of her smiling
Makes it all worth and makes you keep trying
No matter how hopeless it seems
You must always hold on to your dreams,
You must always hold on to your dreams
Watching that girl go by, thinking about her
Can’t help but wonder what I’d do without her
Catch myself thinking her name
And every day it’s the same

Watching that girl go by, thinking about her
Can’t help but wonder what I’d do without her
Catch myself thinking her name
And every day it’s the same
The Busker

He’s running from what he doesn’t know
He’s hiding from what he’s afraid to show
With his guitar upon his shoulder
All he can do is get a little older fast, fast
The vagabond, running forever
Roaming the streets, searching for treasure
All alone, sitting on his corner
When he goes he knows that there won’t be a single mourner
He’s running from what he doesn’t know
He’s hiding from what he’s afraid to show
With his guitar upon his shoulder
All he can do is get a little older fast, fast

He goes wherever the wind blows
Trying to get high but always ends up low
You see him in the street just asking for a chance
But all you give him is another dirty glance
He’s running from what he doesn’t know
He’s hiding from what he’s afraid to show
With his guitar upon his shoulder
All he can do is get a little older fast, fast
And in the bitter cold he holds his only friend
With it he’ll play his songs until the very end
He plays his solemn song for everyone to hear
The lonely serenader sheds another tear
He’s running from what he doesn’t know
He’s hiding from what he’s afraid to show
With his guitar upon his shoulder
All he can do is get a little older fast, fast
You see him on every corner everywhere you go
And every time you see him you just want to know
“How’d you get here, where’s the life you used to lead?”
He just starts to play again, his heart begins to bleed
He’s running from what he doesn’t know
He’s hiding from what he’s afraid to show
With his guitar upon his shoulder
All he can do is get a little older fast, fast
He’s running from what he doesn’t know
He’s hiding from what he’s afraid to show
With his guitar upon his shoulder
All he can do is get a little older fast, fast

Light Enough to See

Watching cars go by
Feel the hours fly
His life is strewn with yesterdays
Silently passing him by
Breath fogs up the glass
As the world rolls past
He gazes at the dreary sky
Hoping the time will fly fast
But he knows the way
Is light enough to see
And he knows it leads
To where he needs to be
Stops, gets off the train
Goes to work again
Get in line, and be on time
Every day is the same
Learn to live with life
Learn to run from strife
The rage in you is nothing new
Why can't you be satisfied

Cause he knows the way
Is light enough to see
And he knows it leads
To where he can be free
The worries of the night
Detain our wings from flight
Restrained to gazing at the clouds
Never to climb to that height
Go through the routine
Remember what you've seen
Soon the light will pierce the night
And all of the slates will be clean
Cause he knows the way
Is light enough to see
And he knows it leads
To where he's meant to be

Imaginary Romance

There was a girl I used to know
We were in love, but she didn’t know
We were together everywhere
The only problem was I wasn’t with her there
My imaginary romance:
And together but alone I danced
My imaginary romance has to end

As I go walking down these city streets
I see her in the eyes of every girl I meet
She breaks my heart each and every day
With every word she doesn’t say
My imaginary romance:
And together but alone I danced
My imaginary romance has to end
It seems no matter how hard I try
All she will do is pass me by
It seems our love is doomed to die
And I’m still left here, just wondering why
My imaginary romance:
And together but alone I danced
My imaginary romance has to end
We could have been together if she’d only known
I know without her I will always be alone
I love her so much yet my love is all in vain
Who knew imaginary love could cause such pain?
My imaginary romance:
And together but alone I danced
My imaginary romance has to end
My imaginary romance has to end

Road Signs

Turn left on Juliet Street, too late to turn around
You say stop you say slow it down, can't bear to hear the sound
Of every word you say, pushing me further and further away
Turn left on Juliet street, right to the end of the line
I'm not lost, just don't know where I'm going. I wish you would show me a sign
Of what you feel for me, and whether I should choose another street
And your road signs keep leading me on
And your eyes always lead me astray
I can’t help but thinking I'm wrong
That you never wanted to stay
You’re always chasing the horizon
But you'll never make it all the way
You need someone there, and girl I've got plenty of time to spare
But you're always busy when I'm asking (asking)
For you to spend your time with me
You can't make up your mind, to let me in or just leave me behind

And your road signs keep leading me on
And your eyes always lead me astray
I can’t help but thinking I'm wrong
That you never wanted to stay
Green lights and wrong-way signs everywhere I turn
But I won't get off this road till I can't drive no more
And will I ever learn, or am I on this road to crash and burn?

Turn left on Juliet street, now don't you understand?
Driving forever on this road wasn't what I had planned
But all exits have passed; I'm hoping the horizon gets here fast

And your road signs keep leading me on
And your eyes always lead me astray
I can’t help but thinking I'm wrong
That you never wanted to stay

Summer's Only Seconds Away

It was the last day of class and everything was topsy turvy
Five till the bell and then everyone is in a hurry
See you today but you know I won't see you tomorrow
No time to talk because summer's only seconds away
I saw you laughing
Couple rows up, five over
My one excuse is that you caught me off guard
Took me a moment
Just to regain my balance
But when the bell rang we were swept by the crowd

It was the last day of class and everything was topsy turvy
Five till the bell and then everyone is in a hurry
See you today but you know I won't see you tomorrow
No time to talk because summer's only seconds away

You reached the hallway
And I thought if I could catch you
That there'd be time enough to talk for a while
I tried to find you
But you slipped right through my fingers
The hall was empty and the summer had come

It was the last day of class and everything was topsy turvy
Five till the bell and then everyone is in a hurry
See you today but you know I won't see you tomorrow
No time to talk because summer's only seconds away

We could have stopped a while
The world standing still
Summer could be never ending
But now it never will

It was the last day of class and everything was topsy turvy
Five till the bell and then everyone is in a hurry
See you today but you know I won't see you tomorrow
No time to talk because summer's only seconds away

I knew I'd lost you
And I hadn't even met you
How could I wait three months to see you again?
I turned the corner
Never guess who I ran into
The hall was empty so we talked for a while

It was the last day of class and everything was topsy turvy
Five till the bell and then everyone is in a hurry
See you today but you know I won't see you tomorrow
No time to talk because summer's only seconds away

Fables

The Lion showed the mouse mercy
But there's no mercy in your heart
Should I ask why it's empty?
There's been no love from the very start
God, I need to hear from somebody what this really means, tell me
What's the point of this story?
If you really can explain to me this fable of my life
There's no happy ending anywhere, not for anyone baby,
Just a bittersweet feeling
All around me is the darkest night, won't you please show me the light?
You wolf in sheep's clothing
You serpent in disguise
Why didn't I see through you?
Why did I swallow all your lies?

God, I need to hear from somebody what this really means, tell me
What's the point of this story?
If you really can explain to me this fable of my life
There's no happy ending anywhere, not for anyone baby,
Just a bittersweet feeling
All around me is the darkest night, won't you please show me the light?
The nightingale was captured
You kept him in your gilded cage
But now he'll fly much faster
To turn his tale to a different page

God, I need to hear from somebody what this really means, tell me
What's the point of this story?
If you really can explain to me this fable of my life
There's no happy ending anywhere, not for anyone baby,
Just a bittersweet feeling
All around me is the darkest night, won't you please show me the light?

I'm done with living in this fable
Trapped in the tangled web you weave
I'll find the moral if I'm able
But now I see that it's time to leave
God I need to hear from somebody what this really means tell me
What's the point of this story?
If you really can explain to me this fable of my life
Now I've broken free from all your chains and I breathe the fresh air in, Time to greet the new morning
After all the battles that we fought the war is finally won
No one else should get to write my life; it's for me to live baby,
Time to write my own story
And the tangled tapestry you wove has finally come undone

Smoking Gun

The days are cold and the days are gone
How much longer must this chase go on?
You know you're tired of being on the run
When you gonna face the smoking gun?

And the road is long but the end is near
And the sun appears and the sky all clears
And you can't turn back but you can't forget
All the lives you took
And the one you're gonna lose any day now
Any day now, the life you're gonna lose any day now
Across the wilderness you've fled from me
How many miles will it take for you to see
No matter how far you run or where you hide
You can't escape from the guilt inside

And the road is long but the end is near
And the sun appears and the sky all clears
And you can't turn back but you can't forget
All the lives you took
And the one you're gonna lose any day now
Any day now, the life you're gonna lose any day now

Even in the darkest night I see you clearly
From the way you cling to life you love it dearly
Yet you destroy it like it's something to ignore
From the way I look at it you've lost the right to yours

And the road is long but the end is near
And the sun appears and the sky all clears
And you can't turn back but you can't forget
All the lives you took
And the one you're gonna lose any day now
Any day now, the life you're gonna lose any day now

The die is cast and the chips are down
We've gone too far down these paths to turn around
You may be quick enough to get around the law
But now we'll see who's the fastest draw
And the road is long but the end is near
And the sun appears and the sky all clears
And you can't turn back but you can't forget
All the lives you took
And the one you're gonna lose any day now
Any day now, the life you're gonna lose any day now
Any day now, the life you're gonna lose any day now

Worth the Wait

You are the one for me and
I am the one for you and
It’s written in the stars that
I’m gonna be with you
Cause baby I need somebody
Somebody to love me
and I need your love so bad
You think he’s the one for you
But you deserve better
You don’t know what you could’ve had
You are worth the wait
And I’ll wait forever if that’s how long it takes
You are worth the wait to me
I’ve known you for so long
I long to hold your hand and
When will you understand that
I couldn’t do you wrong?
He doesn’t need you oh
Need you like I do
He just wants someone to hold him
But my love is stronger and
I’ve waited longer
When are you gonna let me in?
You are worth the wait
And I’ll wait forever if that’s how long it takes
You are worth the wait to me

Girl, you are worth the wait and
You’re worth your weight in gold
I’ll keep on waiting for you
Till I’ve grown old
‘cause girl you’re my soul mate
We can’t escape our fate
We’ll be together someday
I’ll be here waiting
Until you are with me
I know we’ll find a way
You are worth the wait
And I’ll wait forever if that’s how long it takes
You are worth the wait to me
You are worth the wait
And I’ll wait forever if that’s how long it takes
You are worth the wait
You are worth the wait
You are worth the wait to me

Long Enough/Rising Tide

I'm sick of spending these days alone
I wish that you would pick up the phone
I'm tired of dealing with all of this on my own
But I know that you just won't pick up
All I want to do is ask what's up with you
But you'll keep me waiting till you feel I've waited long enough
How long is long enough?
Till we see the stars come tumbling from the sky?
I've already waited long enough
Now tell me when you look me in the eye
Do you see just any other guy?
Oh girl I've been waiting all my life
Just for everything to turn out right
And every day I've been hoping so hard that it might
But from the moment you came in the door
In my life I've never been so sure
That I had finally found exactly what I was looking for
But I'm getting tired of trying to prove myself
And trying to make you see
I know you're trying to protect yourself
But please just take a chance with me
How long is long enough?
Till we see the stars come tumbling from the sky?
I've already waited long enough
Now tell me when you look me in the eye
Do you see just any other guy?
I've already told you that you're worth the wait
But when I'm with you I just can't see straight
From the way you look at me I bet that you can relate
So I think it's time that you pick up the phone
I've got a good feeling in my bones
And I see no reason that we need to go it alone (go it alone)
How long is long enough?
Till we see the stars come tumbling from the sky?
I've already waited long enough
Now tell me when you look me in the eye
Do you see just any other guy?

Oh all my life I been running
Don't know what I'm running from
I just know I gotta keep going
To the sound of the beating drum
But I need someone to tell me where to go
Oh all my life I been working
Don't know what I'm working for
What's the point of a life that's empty?
I gotta hope that there's something more
Somebody tell me what's the point of all this pain?
I can’t find a place to stand
The rock I have built upon has turned to sand
There’s no place that we can hide
It's all washed away by the rising tide
The walls are closing around me
Running out of air here fast
Let me know when the earthquake is over
Let me know when the storm is past
Throw me a line because I'm trapped beneath the waves
I need something to hold on to
Something that I know will last
I need someone to be my shelter
So I might survive the blast
Where can you run when the sky comes crashing down?
I can’t find a place to stand
The rock I have built upon has turned to sand
There’s no place that we can hide
It's all washed away by the rising tide
Oh everything we been building
All being swept away
Oh everything we been hiding
Illuminated by the light of day
This rising tide has washed away our sins
You just can't stop this water
This pulsing flowing tide
This is a day of new beginnings
Might as well enjoy the ride
This rising tide is bringing us a brand new start
I can’t find a place to stand
The rock I have built upon has turned to sand
There’s no need for us to hide
It's all washed away by the rising tide
It's all washed away by the rising tide
